Basch tutorial

I know I suck at writing tutorials, that's why I never write them. xD but this happened to be simple enough to write, so here it is. It's actually so simple I'm quite embarassed to be writing it. lol.

From this to requested @ ff_eye_candy
Made with Photoshop CS2 but translatable to other programs

1. Resize your original image accordingly and paste it on a 100x100 blank canvas to get this.

2. Using the same picture, but one at a larger size ( i can't remember exactly how I resized them), paste it on top of the first one to get this:

3. Add layer mask and using a normal round brush, mask away the background. (you can also use eraser brush for this step if you like)

4. Ctrl-Shift-Alt-E to make a copy of our current icon. Or you could just flatten image, it doesn't matter. This will be your Base.
5. Duplicate base and set on Screen.
6. Duplicate base again and set on Color Burn.

7. Next, slap in these pretty textures which pretty much did all the work
@ softlight + @ softlight + @ screen 32%
Textures by myrasis, lookslikerain and colortone
to get this:
8. I actually like it like this, but I thought it might be too bright for some people. So, I slapped in #004070 on Exclusion @ 30%
9. Next, add some text in white, stroke with a deep blue color that I picked out from the icon. Add some messy tiny text to get that adventurous look. and Basch is ready to rock and roll!

- I've forgotten the maker of many beautiful mask brushes. All her brush files has the word latex_brushname on it. But I couldn't find anyone named latex or latex_ who seems to be the maker on deviantart or LJ. If you have an idea who it is, please tell me!

- Heart brushes. Her brush files has rotten-apple_net on it. I've tried searching to no avail :/

Textures: I'm very disorganized when it comes to textures. I'll try crediting as accurately as possible. If I've used any of your textures without crediting, I really apologize.

Jack Davenport tutorial

Going from to with Photoshop CS2 (should be translatable)

NOTE: If you are having trouble with the lasso tool, you might want to follow this tutorial by powzie instead. It's better for delicate details like hair sticking out etc. But for this icon, the lasso tool is adequate.

1) Take your image. Crop sharpen etc. to form your base.

2) Duplicate base and use lasso tool to outline the subject of your image.
You will have something like this: (if it looks a little different from the finished icon, it's because i lost my base. hehe... i made this icon a loong time ago)

Press SHIFT-CONTROL-I [or go to SELECT>> INVERT]
The background should now be selected. DELETE THE BACKGROUND.

3) Press SHIFT-CONTROL-I again and your subject should be selected again. Go to SELECT >>MODIFY >> EXPAND. I used 3 pixels.

4) In between your base and your duplicate base, add a new layer. Flood fill with #FFFFFF [or whatever color you wish your outline to be]
If you hide your base, you should see something like this: (i put the outline on pink so you can see it better)

5) Hide your base and Merge Visible. Press CONTROL-C to copy

6) Go to File>>New and open a new 100x100 blank canvas. It doesn't matter what color.

7) Flood fill with #5dc3ff

8) Press CONTROL-V to paste your image.
You should have something like this:

9) Flatten image.

10) Duplicate image and set on screen @ 100%

11) Go to Layer >> New adjustment Layer >> Hue/saturation. Set saturation to +18 or 20 depending on your image.

12) Add new layer. Flood fill with #001b70 and set on Exclusion @ 59%

Almost done! Add whatever text/brushes you like, or in my case:

13) I added some tiny text and duplicated the layer to make the font bolder.

14) then I used this brush by acme_graphics

TA-DAH! You have a smoking hot icon of Jack Davenport. (pardon the pun!) Not so hard, was it?

First icon making attempt!

This is my first time making icons of any kind! Constructive criticism are welcome, but remember it's my first time, so don't be too harsh on me ya? :) Also, i don't have Photoshop, so some of the images were pretty difficult to create.
